  • Play School reveals Indigenous doll Kiya for NAIDOC Week

Play School has welcomed a new Aboriginal toy to its soft and cuddly cast, introducing the doll to the show in an Acknowledgement of Country special.

Her debut episode aired on Monday to mark the beginning of NAIDOC Week, and saw her star alongside presenters Luke Carroll, Miranda Tapsell and Hunter Page-Lochard.

The history-making episode was the first time the show had featured a line-up of all Indigenous presenters, with the entire episode also being dedicated to Indigenous culture and highlighting the importance of caring for Country together.

What do we know about the new doll?

The doll's name is Kiya, which means "hello" in Noongar language.

Kiya is from Noongar country, which is in the southern corner of Western Australia.

Its boundary begins on the west coast at a point north of Jurien Bay, stretches east to a point north of Moora and then goes south-east down to the coastline between Bremer Bay and Esperance.

Noongar country is one of the largest Indigenous cultural blocks in Australia, consisting of 14 language groups.

New toys are rarely introduced to Play School. Joey the joey was the last one in 2016, for Play School's 50th anniversary.

Play School has featured Aboriginal toys before, such as Jim in 1985, who is now retired, and Dan from 2007, who is still on the show.

Kiya is a modern representation with connection to land, being a Noongar girl — this is a first.

She will be a regular on the show, joining the likes of Big Ted, Little Ted, Humpty and Jemima, along with the rest of the Play School favourites.

    The story behind Kiya's creation

Kiya was created in collaboration with Play School, the ABC's Indigenous unit and Western Australian company Awe & Wonder.

Aboriginal early childhood consultant and adviser Jessica Staines and early childhood education consultant and adviser Dr Ruby Scarlet also assisted and were advisers and script outliners for Monday's special episode.

During the design process, it was decided Kiya should have a strong connection to Country and be reflective of contemporary identities that Indigenous children have today.

Kiya's community's connection to the ocean was a big part of the design process of her dress, made with fabric designed by artist Kiya Watt.

"The ocean has strong connection to Menang Noongars," Ms Watt said.

"The symbols and dots throughout the middle represent the strong spirit and movements of the ocean.

"The dark blue lines outlined with white dots show the waterholes [ngamar] where we would fish from to provide food for our families.

"The ocean, like boodjah [land], is our mother and we must honour and protect, and only fish enough to provide for our family."

'It's time that we had Kiya'

Tapsell said it was an honour to be part of Kiya's debut episode, which also served as a celebration of Indigenous culture.

But, she told the ABC that talking about Australia's relationship with its Indigenous peoples has "always been a tough conversation".

The best way to bring a spotlight to those conversations has been through art and Play School has been one of those wonderful institutions that has just always weaved Indigenous culture, song and identity into its space," she said.

"New Zealand has had Manu the Maori doll since 1972, so it's only fitting that it's time that we had Kiya."

Manu was described as a main character on the New Zealand iteration of Play School, which was produced between 1972 and 1990.

She replaced a West Indian doll when the British Play School format was adapted for local screens

  • 10 top tips for computer beginners

Perseverance makes experts of us all

    1. Be patient with yourself – everyone finds it difficult and frustrating to learn how to use computers
    2. Ask for help at any time, but especially if you:
      1. can’t see the screen clearly
      1. can’t use the mouse
      1. haven’t used a keyboard before.
    3. Computers are there to enhance your life. Think: what would I like to do better, do easier or do more of in my life? Then ask someone for advice on how a computer can help you achieve that goal.
    4. Try to be selective about who you listen to. Those who are negative about computers may be scared themselves or maybe the digital world is just not for them. Don’t let your enthusiasm be dampened by them.
    5. Go at your own pace – don’t compare yourself with anyone else. Everyone comes to computers with a different background and experience, and everyone learns to use them at a different pace.
    6. Set yourself small, realistic goals. If you’re not sure what these should be, discuss them with a friend or with a computer mentor or tutor if you have access to one. Better to be able to find one useful website or send one short email than to end up with a head full of instructions and no results.
    7. Practice makes perfect: don’t shy from repeating the things you’re learning time and time again until you feel you’ve got it. And don’t be scared about making mistakes.
    8. If you start dreaming about mice, and email, and keyboards, you probably need to take a break!
  • Cricket World Cup semi-final: England dashes Australia's hopes of back-to-back finals with eight-wicket demolition

Australia's promising Cricket World Cup campaign has ended in disappointment, as England progressed to the final with a comprehensive eight-wicket win in the second semi-final in Birmingham.

England was never on the back foot at Edgbaston, tearing through most of Australia's batting line-up before making light work of the run chase to reach the final for the fourth time, and the first since 1992.

The tournament hosts will be looking for their maiden world title in the July 14 decider, as will their opponents, New Zealand, who would have been interested onlookers as England easily chased down 224 to hammer its oldest rival.

England never looked in trouble at all at the crease. Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow started at a rapid pace and with Australia's openers failing to swing the ball dangerously, dominated from the  outset.

Roy in particular was setting the pace, using his unique style to whip and work the bowling to all corners of the ground. When the ball was thrown optimistically to Steve Smith, Roy counter-attacked brilliantly, hitting three consecutive sixes and ending the streak by putting one in the fourth tier.

Bairstow was more circumspect but just as impressive, even despite seemingly injuring his ankle while turning for a run.

The pair would take the game away from Australia in the fist 15 overs and pass 100 with ease. It came as a surprise when Bairstow fell LBW to Starc, simply missing a straight one and — crucially — opting to waste a review on a stone dead LBW decision.

Roy looked certain to reach his ton before controversy struck. Cummins sent a wild short ball down the leg side that Alex Carey scrambled after and caught, prompting appeals from the Australians.

Umpire Kumar Dharmasena took his time before eventually and gradually raising the finger, despite replays showing the glove was nowhere near the ball. Roy was bemused, and actioned to review the decision, but was quickly told he couldn't as Bairstow had used his team's only challenge.

Roy did not take the decision well. He refused to leave the crease initially, and argued with Dharmasena before the other umpire Marais Erasmus had to usher him off. He continued voicing his displeasure all the way off the field, and the stump microphone heard him saying "f***ing embarrassing".

After Roy's explosive display with bat and mouth, England's most experienced batsmen, Eoin Morgan and Joe Root, calmly and quickly knocked off the remaining 77 runs to send England through to face New Zealand.

Australia's start leaves it playing from behind

Australia's start with the bat could hardly have been worse. With the first ball of the second over, captain Aaron Finch was trapped plumb in front by a searing Jofra Archer inswinger and departed for a golden duck.

David Warner lasted only a few balls longer, out fending a short ball from Chris Woakes to Bairstow in the slips. Then Peter Handscomb, brought into the side for the first time all tournament to replace the injured Usman Khawaja, was comprehensively bowled by Woakes to start the seventh over.

At 3-14, Australia was in danger of falling out of the contest before it had really begun, but Australia elevated Carey in the batting order to join Steve Smith, and the two set about rescuing the innings.

The pair batted patiently but ruthlessly when the English bowling finally began to falter, Carey especially racing a long at a run a ball without taking any real risks. The partnership passed 100, and Australia looked back on track.

That was until Carey fancied a piece of Adil Rashid, and in trying to dispatch him for six over cow corner only found the safe hands of sub fielder James Vince.

Marcus Stoinis came and went quickly, completely deceived by a Rashid wrong'un and caught LBW, bring Glenn Maxwell to the crease. Maxwell looked his usual expansive set, and seemed to have overcome his issues with the short ball, but soon fell meekly chipping one to Eoin Morgan at short cover.

At the time, it just looked an inexplicably poor shot, but on replay it became clear Archer had bowled a quite brilliant knuckle ball to surprise and outwit Maxwell with a lack of pace.

From there, none of the bowlers really were able to support Smith properly. Pat Cummins nicked off to slip to give Rashid a third, and while Mitchell Starc was attempting to push things along at one end, Smith found himself run out by a pinpoint throw from wicketkeeper Jos Buttler — the throw was so good, it actually went between Smith's legs before cannoning into the stumps.

Starc went next ball and Behrendorff soon after as Australia posted a score that never really felt like enough.

  • iPhone fever battery is running out quickly - how to fix it

It is normal for an iPhone to feel a little warmer especially when charging the battery or playing game for hours. However, when you sense that your phone is heating up and its battery drains all of a sudden, then you need to pay attention to this issue. It’s an indication that something is wrong with your device and that thing needs to be fixed before it gets worse.

How to Tell if My Phone is Overheating

Heat is a battery’s enemy. Most smartphones are designed with heat dispersion so they don’t overheat easily. Your iPhone is designed to perform well in a wide range of ambient temperatures, with 62° to 72° F (16° to 22° C) as the ideal comfort zone. It’s especially important to avoid exposing your device to ambient temperatures higher than 95° F (35° C). Using an iPhone in very hot conditions can permanently shorten battery life.

If the interior temperature of the device exceeds the normal operating range, the device will protect itself by attempting to regulate its temperature. If this happens, you might notice these changes:

    • Charging/wireless charging, slow or stops.
    • The display dims or goes black.
    • Cellular radios enter a low-power state. The signal might weaken during this time.
    • The camera flash is temporarily disabled.
    • Apps perform slow.

When the iPhone starts to overheat it will display a warning message: “Temperature: iPhone needs to cool down.“ An iPhone showing this message might still be able to make emergency calls.

An overheat smartphone usually freeze, run out of battery fast, shorten its battery life, or even explode. So, take it seriously once your phone is extremely hot. When it comes to phone abnormal heating, it seems that there is potentially dangerous as a smartphone exploding.

Which Can Cause iPhone Heating up

There are a couple of basic reasons your iPhone overheat. The first is when misbehaving or damaged components generate more heat than they should. Another is when the cooling system isn’t operating as well as it should be. For example, your phone’s cooling holes may be full of dust, something may be blocking your phone’s vents. You might notice that your device heats up in these situations:

    • Running too many apps that use much battery power.
    • Charging a phone with a fast charger but not its original one.
    • Using a protective case that black or slow down heat dissipation.
    • Phone signal and the network is poor.
    • When iPhone runs many tasks or reanalyzes data, like Phones tagging for faces, places, or keywords after a software update.
    • When you set up your device the first time.
    • When you restore from a backup.

Here are some of the higher ambient-temperature conditions and activities that might cause the device to change performance and behavior.

    • Leave the device in a car on a hot day.
    • Leaving the device in direct sunlight for an extended period of time.
    • Using certain features in hot conditions or direct sunlight for an extended period of time, such as GPS tracking or navigation in a car, play a graphics-intensive game, or using augmented-reality apps.
Why apps will use a lot of the battery

There are several different reasons why apps use a lot of battery. For example, the app is being constantly used or used in the background. It could be downloading content, uploading content, using location services or streaming audio. The app is being used in an area with poor cellular service. When this happens, it puts more work on the battery and drains it quickly.

Additionally, the app is not working properly. For example, the app can be constantly crashing. The app is using AirPlay. When the app is streaming audio to AirPlay speakers, or video to an Apple TV. It will take a lot of power consumption.

How to avoid your phone overheating

Here are some tips we’ve compiled to help prevent your iPhone(IPHONE ACCESSORIES) from overheating:

    • Keep your applications up-to-date.
    • Uninstall some unnecessary apps.
    • Keep your phone away from your other gadgets.
    • Don’t leave your phone in a hot environment.
    • Charge phone with its original charger.

How to troubleshoot an abnormal heating phone

Once you sense your phone heating up, power off your phone, and then remove the protective case to cool it down. Don’t plug it into a power source until the temperature dropped down. If the phone getting very hot and not cooling down, then take it straight to an Apple Store and have the experts inspect it. If your iPhone hasn’t passed the battery test, Apple will replace your battery free if you’re under warranty. Otherwise, you need to pay for this service.

  • Will the Foldable Phone Be An Industrial Trend ?

With two smart phone giants of Huawei and Samsung recently releasing two foldable smartphone types, there seems to blow the wind that we may enter a next generation of foldable smartphones. But will this come true? Beforehand, let’s have a close check at those two smartphones.

    Samsung Galaxy Fold

Samsung Galaxy Fold smartphone was launched in February 2019. The phone comes with a 7.30-inch touchscreen primary display with a resolution of 1536×2152 pixels, a 4.60-inch touchscreen as its second display, with a resolution of 840×1960 pixels. Samsung Galaxy Fold is powered by an octa-core processor with 12 GB of RAM. There are three camera apertures on its rear. It sports a 10-megapixel camera on the front for selfies, with an f/F2.2 aperture. It was launched in Space Silver, Cosmos Black, and Martian Green and Astro Blue colors.

However, its rival, Huawei, launched its Mate X in February 2019. The phone comes with a 6.60-inch touchscreen primary display with a resolution of 1148×2480 pixels. Featuring a 6.38-inch touchscreen as its second display, with a resolution of 892×2480 pixels, the Huawei Mate X also has an 8.00-inch touchscreen as its third display, with a resolution of 2200×2480 pixels. As far as the cameras are concerned, the Huawei Mate X on the rear packs a 40-megapixel primary camera; a second 16-megapixel camera and a third 8-megapixel camera. It sports a camera on the front for selfies. The Huawei Mate X was launched in Interstellar Blue color.

But, not long ago, Sumsang has recalled all its review units because of the drawbacks they found on the testing samples, including screen crease on the folded hinge and the protective layer on the screen. And users also have found the same problems on Huawei Mate X, display crease and user experience problems.

Now let’s come back to the topic, is the folded smartphone the future trend? In my opinion, the answer may be NO.

At present, the smartphone has come to an awkward dilemma of bottleneck development. No suppliers including the so called smartphone tycoons can develop a refreshing technical design for users. All the so called next generation is just a repetition of old technology or some minor changes for the placement of the camera, the fingerprint identification, or the number of camera they piled up on the phone.

For this kind of folded smartphone, it is another version of finding existence in the market. There is no obvious technical enhancement except for a larger visual angle on a larger screen, a new using experience of folding your phones. However, customers must pay a much higher price for those so called new experience and also for its following faults caused by folding design. The loose outweighs the gain. We are waiting for a real breakthrough in the smartphone industry to startle us.

  • How to Fix Your Smartphone Dropped in Water – Here are 5 Steps

In modern society, the smartphone has become a necessity for the public. People have higher requirements for both sound quality pixel and exon of the phone, especially for women, who generally have higher standards for pixel sound quality. However, most taboo of smartphones is to be dropped or soaked in water. If the phone gets in the water, and you timely process it, which will not have much impact on the fuselage itself. However, the impact on the camera is relatively large. So, what to do if the phone gets in the water? How to deal with the smartphone that could not be turned on after dropped in water? Here are some Suggestions.

Steps to fix the issue that the smartphone dropped in water

    • Step 1: Scoop the phone up
    • Step 2: Remove the phone battery
    • Step 3: Wiping off the water drops
    • Step 4: Place the phone in an airtight container
    • Step 5: Turn on the phone

Step 1: Scoop the smartphone up

First of all, when you accidentally find that your smartphone drops in water, you should immediately scoop it up. The longer the phone is soaked in water, the greater the damage will be, so it should be scooped up without any hesitation.

Step 2: Remove the smartphone battery

Once you’ve scooped up your phone, don’t turn it on, don’t push any buttons. If your phone battery is removable, you should carefully open up the back of the battery, and then remove the smartphone battery and SIM card(s). If your phone’s battery is non-removable, it should be sent to a repair shop for water treatment immediately.

Step 3: Wiping off the water drops

After the battery is removed, you can use the dry cloth to wipe it carefully. After wiping off the external water drops, you can proceed to the next operation. Please note that the hairdryer should not be used to dry the phone, otherwise, the high-temperature heat may cause devastating damage to the sensitive components inside the phone.

Step 4: Place the smartphone in an airtight container

Next, place the phone in an airtight container with raw rice. Because raw rice is good for absorbing liquids. It is better to keep it in an airtight container for a couple of days, or 1 to 2 months. In general, if conditions are available, put in a drying agent for better results.

Step 5: Turn on the smartphone

After a couple of days or a month, you can take out your phone from an airtight container with uncooked rice back, install the battery, and try turning it on. If the phone can be turned on successfully, it means the phone can be used normally. If the phone cannot be turned on, it is sad that we can only consider buying a new phone.

Note: Shut the phone off and remove the battery to dry after it drops in water so that the battery does not get wet and some parts inside the phone may be burned if the phone is turned on immediately. Also, if the phone is ready to be turned on, check the parts carefully to see if they work properly.

  • Don’t Give Up On Your Slow, Laggy Smartphone

Learn why your phone slows down and how to fix it.

Many smartphone users believe they need to upgrade their smartphones every time the next model comes out. Over time, smartphones become sluggish and don’t perform as well as they did when they were fresh out of the box. A common misconception is that smartphone processing speeds slow down with age and older phones need to be replaced. However, you can get your old phone running like brand new by clearing the cache files regularly.

Cache files are created by apps and websites to help your smartphone improve load times and performance. They can be beneficial to sites and apps you use regularly as they build “shortcuts” by reusing some of the information from previous visits so that information doesn’t have to be recreated each time you use them.

The downside is cached data takes up storage space on your device and can get corrupted over time. Additionally, cache data builds up from apps and sites you seldom use. The result is a delay or lag in your phone’s processing speed and makes your phone load slower in addition to taking up valuable storage space. In some cases, cache file buildup causes apps and webpages to freeze up or stop responding.

Luckily, there’s an easy solution to this annoying problem. Dfndr performance is a free phone cleaner app  with powerful tools that can help keep your phone’s speed and performance optimized. You may not realize that like your car, your smartphone needs regular maintenance and tune-ups to keep it running well. Dfndr performance was developed to improve all aspects of your Android’s operation and to ensure that it operates as well as the day you took it out of the box.

The Quick Cleaner tool is designed specifically to help address the problem of slow smartphones by removing junk cache files. Here are the fine points:

    • The Quick Cleaner feature is easily activated by a single tap.
    • The tool automatically clears cache files and frees up valuable storage space and has a reminder feature to help you schedule regular cleanings so your phone remains clutter-free and running like new.
    • There’s also an Advanced Cache Cleaner tool that gives your phone a more in-depth, thorough cleaning.
  • Everyting you need to know about Huawei P20 battery life

Huawei launched its new flagship line earlier this year, P20 and P20 Pro, as usual most customers care more about the design, camera performance, chip/system and other key features, especially the triple-lens P20 Pro draws astonishing attention. What about the battery part?

We know that Huawei sports a trimmed 3400mAh non-removable battery cell at P20, for P20 Pro it’s a whopping 4000mAh capacity included. Literally 3400mAh should be enough for intermediate daily usage – like news searching, work, play-not heavily playing, you can comfortably use the P20 all day and night without worrying that it’ll run out on you.

To make a comparison, we decide to play videos and games to verify whether the battery life is as strong as the official says. Playing a full screen HD video on max brightness for 90 minutes, the P20 had lost 30% of its charge. The result of video watching is quite acceptable, especially for the World Cup season, even though the performance is not as great as Samsung Galaxy S9 and iPhone X. While game-playing is a big energy-draining monster, it only lasts about 3 hours to run a heavy game. If video watching and game playing is part of your daily life you’d better prepare a good power bank to keep it alive, of course most smartphones would not survive for a very long time , so don’t blame P20 for this point, it’s just in the average zone.

How to prolong the battery life of Huawei P20?

1.Try to reduce the screen resolution to 720p. In a 5.8 inches screen, there’s not a highlighted difference with 720p and 1080p resolution, lower the index would extend the battery life distinctly, especially when watching videos.

2.Automatic brightness should also save you a few percent. You can adjust the brightness on you own, but I still recommend you to put it on automatic since you don’t need to think much about it and change it  often.

3.Use Power-Saving Mode and Ultra Power-Saving Mode. Both make a real difference to power consumption – if you can live with the sacrifices.

4.Keep it cool. The phone is always getting hot when use it heavily, and high temperature is a serious killer of battery life. Take the case off and turn off the needless apps on the background before it becomes too hot.

All in all, Huawei P20 is not the best battery-performing phone, but for daily routine it’s absolutely competent. If you are looking for a phone with snappy design and high-end performance for a fair price, Huawei P20 is a good option for you.

It will make sure that you never fall prey to phishing attempts. Nonetheless, it’s always good to know when a website is not secure, too, in case you ever happen to clickon one. Here are five sure bets that a website is not legitimate. 1.The URL is Not Correct. If a website wantsyour personal information — legitimately — its URL should start with anhttps://.” If the website to which you want to navigate doesn’t start this way — but normally, it does — you can bet it’s a fake. 2.The Website Doesn’t Have a Badge Verification. On the bottom of asecure website, you will see a Secure and Verifiedbadge at the bottom of the website. You can click on this badge for more information. If the information provided doesn’t match up with the website you’re on, you might be on a fraudulent web page. 3.The Website Doesn’t Have a Lock Icon. The lock icon —which is on the URL address bar at the top of your browser, usually to the leftof the URL — is included on secure websites. Fake websites might not have a lockicon or they might create a fake one. Click on the lock icon to check for moreinformation about the website. 4.The Website Doesn’t Have a PrivacyPolicy. If a websitedoesn’t have a privacy policy, they also can’t promise the security of yourinformation. This could signal it’s a bogus website, therefore, move on to a legitimate one. 5.The Website Has an Expired SSLCertification A website with anexpired SSL certification means that the website — and any information youenter into it — is susceptible to attack. It can be easy to be fooled by a spoofed website that looks and operates like websites you use regularly. However, be sure to be wary — and to use DFNDR’s Anti-Hacking feature — to make sure you don’t give away your private information.
