LCD Screens
Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) screens, also
known as flat panel monitors, were once the wave of the future. LCD screens are
standard features on everything from laptop computers and cell phones to
televisions, digital cameras and calculators. LCD displays are made of a layer
of crystal solution that is sandwiched between two sheets of flexible
polarizing material.
Unlike old-fashioned glass monitors, LCD screens are much more delicate. There are mazes of circuitry and electrical components that reside inside a LCD monitor, which are very sensitive to moisture. As such, it is critical that liquid cleaners never come into contact with the inner mechanisms of LCD screens, especially since the display is created in large part by various voltages of electricity being sent to cells of liquid crystal.
How to Clean LCD Screens Properly
The surface of LCD screens is made from
soft plastic materials which are extremely vulnerable to scratches. What's
more, most large HDTVs are coated with a special anti-glare substrate, which
can be damaged if you don't learn how to clean LCD screens properly.
The following tips will help you prevent damaging your LCD screens during the cleaning process:
Power Down
Before
you start cleaning your LCD screen, be sure to turn it off. Never clean while
the monitor is on. Rather, shut off the power to the LCD screen and allow it to
cool down prior to cleaning it. A warm surface will evaporate cleaning
solutions before you have a chance to wipe the screen and you will be left with
large streaks.
Use Soft Cloths
While
it may be tempting to do so, never use Kleenex, paper towels, or other coarse

that can damage the delicate surfaces or protective surface coatings of LCD
screens. In addition, materials, such as facial tissue can be quite dusty and

or disposable dust cloths.
Air Method
For
daily cleanings, use canned air to remove dust and debris from the edges or
corners of your LCD screen. Canned air can also be used as the first step in a
more thorough cleaning process. Simply apply the air to the surface of the
screen to remove large pieces of dust before giving your monitor a good wipe
down.
Avoid Liquid Cleaners
LCD screens and liquid cleaners do not mix well. Liquid cleaners that are designed specifically to clean LCD screens should only be used periodically. What's more, you should never use a cleaner that contains ketones, as they can destroy the screen's anti-glare coating. If you must use a liquid cleaner on a LCD screen be sure to spray it onto a clean cloth rather than applying it directly to the screen. You never want to run the risk of liquid cleaner seeping under the frame of the screen. Also, if you cannot afford to purchase low-impact LCD screen cleaning solution you can use diluted isopropyl alcohol in very small amounts to clean your monitor.
Be Gentle
LCD
screens are fragile and should be cleaned with gentle strokes. Never press on
the screen with your fingers or other objects, as excessive wiping pressure can
damage the monitor.
Size Matters
Size
matters when it comes to learning how to clean LCD screens. Smaller LCD
displays can typically be cleaned with a single wipe. However, large flat
screen TVs should be cleaned in sections. Attempting to clean the entire
surface of a huge HGTV screen can cause streaks and smudges. In addition, it
can damage the screen's protective coating. Your best bet when cleaning large
LCD screens is to work on half or a third of the screen, and then proceed on
with the rest when you are done with the first section.

You don't always have to go to a jeweler to have your watch adjusted to fit your wrist. Depending on the type of watch you own, you may be able to make the adjustment yourself quickly and easily using just a few tools.
Adjusting a Metal Watch Band
Most metal watchbands are made up of links that are attached to one another with small metal pins. Typically, watch bands come with more links than you'll need to fit your wrist. To get the perfect fit, you'll have to remove some of these links.

Two small blocks of wood
Sewing pins
Measuring tape
What to Do
First, determine how many links you need to remove. You can do this by measuring your wrist with the measuring tape comfortably loose, just as you'd wear your watch. Compare this measurement to the watch band to find out how my extra links you have.
You'll also need to take a close look at the links. Not all links can be removed. In many watches, the removable links are near the clasp and are marked with small arrows.
Locate the pins that are holding the removable links together; they will be near the arrow.
Rest the watch band on its side on the two blocks of wood.
Position the pin so that it is between the blocks, in a way that will allow you to tap it out while supporting the rest of the band. The arrow on the link should be pointing downward.
Hold one of the sewing pins directly over the watch pin hole on the link. Position the point of the pin so it will go down into the hole, pushing the watch pin out.
Gently tap the small hammer on the top of the sewing pin, pushing the watch pin down between the blocks of wood. The sewing pin will now be in its place.
Use the small pliers to remove the sewing pin, and set the watch pin aside. The links will pull apart.
Remove the number of links you desire, and then carefully realign the links to close the watch band.
Position the watch pin so that it is in the hole for the link, and then use the small hammer to tap it back into place. If you have trouble placing the pin, a pair of tweezers can help.
Try on your watch to make sure it fits as needed.
Adjusting Rubber or Silicone Watch Straps
Rubber or silicone watch straps are popular for their durability, and they are also fairly easy to adjust at home. These watches typically come with a clasp that can be removed and reattached with a special pin. If your watch strap is too long for your wrist, you can remove some of the rubber or silicone material and reattach the clasp.

What to Do
Begin by measuring your wrist and comparing the measurement to the watch. This will tell you how much rubber or silicone material you'll need to remove. Most silicone and rubber watches have a series of grooves in the band that can help you decide where you'll need to cut. Remember to keep the band loose enough to be comfortable, since you won't be able to add the material back in.
Uncurl the paper clip, and use the end to push on the tiny pin on the clasp of the watch. This will release the clasp from the silicone or rubber strap.
Lay the strap flat on the cutting board with the grooved side up.
Identify where you'll need to cut to remove the amount of material you need. Carefully cut in the groove, using a utility knife.
Examine the extra strap material to find the small pin in the link that attached to the clasp. Remove this pin, and then discard the extra strap material.
Insert the watch pin into the remaining strap at the position closest to the end, and position the clasp as appropriate. Use the paper clip to help you engage the clasp with the pin.
Try on the watch to make sure it fits.
Re-adjust as needed.
Adjusting a Leather Watch Strap
Leather watch straps are also easy to adjust at home, but you'll need a special tool called a leather punch. You can purchase a leather punch at most craft stores or from Amazon.com. You'll need a punch that is capable of making a two-millimeter hole.

What to Do
Measure your wrist at a comfortably loose spot. Compare this measurement to your watch band. Make a mark on the underside of the band where the measurement is. You'll need to make a hole in this spot.
Examine your watch band to see if you'll be happy with the location of the hole. You may want to adjust it slightly to keep the hole spacing uniform.
Use the leather punch to make a hole in the desired spot. Wash off any excess marker.
Try on the watch. If desired, you can trim the excess leather off the end using the utility knife and cutting board.
Tips for Adjusting Watch Bands
When you are adjusting a watch band there are a few tips to remember:
Remember that some people's wrist size changes depending on the weather or even the time of the day. Do not adjust a watch band to fit snugly during very hot or cold weather or at the start of the day.
Thicker watch straps often need to be a little looser than thin straps; this is to allow for normal movement of the wrist. Thick straps are also less likely to fall off over the wrist.
When taking links out of a watch keep any spare links as these can be used to make the strap bigger again if necessary.
For valuable designer watches, it's best to take your watch to a professional to have the band adjusted.

TROUBLED CHINESE tech giant Huawei has released better than expected
results for the first half of 2019, though as you'll soon see, there's a catch.
The company's decision to publish a full half-year has paid off, showing as it does a 23.2 per cent year-on-year increase in revenue - despite all the trouble being caused by the White House trade ban.
Here's the thing though - most
companies report by quarters, including Huawei up to now. Keep that in mind.
It reports revenue of $58.26bn
(£47.81bn) with a net profit margin of 8.7 per cent. In the report, Huawei's
chairman thanks customers for their ongoing ‘trust and support' adding:
"This has been a unique period
in Huawei's history. Given the situation, you might think that things have been
chaotic for us. But that's far from the case. We have been working hard to
ensure smooth operations, and our organization is as sound as ever. With
effective management and excellent performance across all financial indicators,
our business has remained robust in the first half of 2019."
However, whilst nobody is accusing
Huawei of cooking the books, there's no doubt these numbers are a bit
subjective. By burying the most recent figures in the safe haven of a wider
period, mostly pre-ban, there may well be more effects than the figures
suggest.
For example, an analysis from IDC
shows that Huawei's growth in the smartphone sector has stalled completely.
Between 2013 and 2018, the company has shown consistent growth averaging at
32.5 per cent between Q1 and Q2 of each period. Last year the figure was 38 per
cent, with Q2 of 2018 showing a massive 54 per cent growth.
This year, Q1 figures clocked in at
59 per cent. Impressive. However, the Q2 figures are the same - 59 per cent. So
although Huawei hasn't dropped in shipments particularly, it also hasn't grown
between quarters for the first time since 2012.
Of course, that's only one sector of
a very large business, but given that entire countries are refusing to use its
5G networking equipment, it's quite likely that its not the only part of the
business to slow down - but by lumping Q1 and Q2 together into H1 results, it
buys the company more time before it comes to light. Eeek.
The news comes as it is revealed that Google and Huawei have been collaborating on a smart speaker, which has been shelved, thanks to the ban.
